The Surrey County Women's Bowling Association presented Jean Bailey with the Loyal Service Award in 2015 in recognition of her many years of loyal service to her club and the game of bowls.
Jean had been a member of Chertsey Bowls Club for 33 years at the time of her nomination and is still an active official today.
Offices held:
Ladies Captain from 1990-1993, 1996-2001 and 2003
Vice Captain 2002
President 2003-2006 and 2010-2013
Treasurer for 7 years
Delegate and treasurer to North West Surrey Bowling Association for 16 years
Jean's nomination presentation:
This lady would be the first person to volunteer for any duty that needs doing in the club no matter how large or small, clean or dirty, its no problem for her. She has been called "the best scrubber in Chertsey". Somewhat unkindly but said with great sincerity and complimentary by her fellow members.
She will be a taxi driver, baker, tea maker, bar tender, decorator, events organiser, the list goes on. The manner in which she has represented the club with loyalty, enthusiasm, dedication is second to none. Certainly the most noteworthy in Chertsey recent history.
Not sure if you have guessed who it is yet but when I continue it will become obvious.
She has been ladies captain from 1990-1993, 1996-2001 and then in 2003. Vice captain in 2002. President from 2003-2006 and then again from 2010-2013. Treasurer for 7 years and 16 years as delegate and treasurer to North West Surrey Bowling Association. She has also managed to get in writing a booklet after the club's centenary recording all that went on in the year.
She has been a member of Chertsey Bowls Club for approx 33 years. What an achievement let alone everything else she has done.
She is to me a truly amazing woman and I am extremely proud and honoured to present JEAN BAILEY with Surrey's Loyal Service Award.
Jean is well known for her witty rhymes. Here's one she penned describing her first days of bowls in 1983:
